Dangerous Weapons

The Board of Trustees will not tolerate the possession of firearms, other dangerous weapons, or any other devices used to inflict serious bodily harm by any staff member while on College property, at a College-sponsored event, or in a College vehicle.

Any staff member found possessing firearms, other dangerous weapons, or other devices used to inflict bodily harm on College premises, in a College vehicle, or on property being used by the College for College purposes may be charged with a felony. This restriction applies to staff members who may be licensed to possess firearms. It is not applicable to sworn federal, state, or local law enforcement officers who are required to carry firearms during the course of their employment.

Staff members who have knowledge of the possession of firearms, other dangerous weapons, and/or threats of violence by students, staff members, or visitors should report this to the Office of Campus Safety.

The Office of Campus Safety shall ensure that any staff member possessing firearms, other dangerous weapons, or other devices designed to inflict bodily harm, or threatening violence is reported immediately to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

Firearms or other weapons which are otherwise legal to possess may be brought onto College property for educational purposes under controlled circumstances when authorized by the appropriate division director with the concurrence of the vice president/dean.

Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment and/or prosecution consistent with the law.
