Outside Activities of Staff
The Board of Trustees directs the President to promulgate the following guidelines so that professional staff members may avoid situations in which their personal interests, activities, and associations may conflict with the interests of the College. If such situations threaten a staff member's effectiveness within the school system, the President shall evaluate the impact of such interest, activity, or association upon the professional staff member's responsibilities.
A. Staff members shall not be excused from their employment responsibilities in order to pursue an outside activity, or interest, or association without written administrative permission.
B. Staff members shall not use school property or school time to solicit or accept customers for private enterprises without written administrative permission.
C. Staff members shall not engage in any transactions on behalf of private enterprises in which he/she may profit by virtue of his/her official position or authority or benefit financially from confidential information which the employee has obtained or may obtain by reason of his/her position or authority.
D. While performing their employment, staff members shall not campaign on school property on behalf of any political issue or candidate for local, state or national office.
E. Staff members may not accept fees for tutoring when such tutoring is conducted during the normal work day.
F. Staff members may not accept fees for remedial tutoring of students currently enrolled in one (1) or more of their classes.
G. Staff members should avoid conduct and associations outside the school which, if known, could have an adverse or harmful effect upon the school community.
H. Staff members should refrain from expressions that would disrupt harmony among their co-workers or interfere with the maintenance of discipline by school officials.
I. Staff members will not do indirectly, i.e. in the name of or through family members, that which they are prohibited from doing directly.
